A Hive or Nest thermostat, fitted by a qualified installer for between 150 and 250 pounds including the device, produces average savings of between 150 and 200 pounds per year on gas bills for a standard three-bedroom house, according to figures from the Energy Saving Trust. At that rate, the device pays for itself within ten to fourteen months and continues saving money for as long as it operates.

Replacing all the halogen downlighters in a typical house with equivalent LED versions costs under 100 pounds and reduces lighting energy consumption by approximately 80 percent. The bulbs also last significantly longer, reducing replacement costs.
